Winooski Headwaters Community Project

The Project is a collaborative effort to help the residents to restore and protect the ecological integrity and human enjoyment of the Winooski watershed. The Project focuses on the watershed in the towns of Cabot, Marshfield and Plainfield. The headwaters of a river system are particularly sensitive and important to the health of the entire river. The Winooski River is no different.

The Project was conceived by a diverse group of partners-local and state government, local businesses, nonprofit organizations and interested citizens-to combine their resources and efforts on their common interest in the Winooski headwaters area. The partners have undertaken a number of activities including two major riparian restoration projects, an educational speaker series, the Winooski Headwaters Festival and the Marshfield Corridor Plan.

Tributary-Based Partnerships

The Friends’ is working on replicating the Headwaters Community Project in other tributaries. In particular, we have developed many relationships and projects in the North Branch, Kingsbury Branch and Stevens Branch. Over the next year or so, we will work to solidify these partnerships.
