Winooski River Sojourn
Please join us for the inagural Winooski River Sojourn on June 3rd to June 8th! The Sojourn is a multi day canoe and kayak trip on the Winooski River. Participants may sign up for the entire trip, multiple days or a single day. The goal of the Sojourn is to inspire individual connections to the River and among the communities and users of the resource. The participants will learn about the river’s history, ecology and the challenges facing this precious resource. Check our the Sojourn page for more info. The programs are free and open to the public.

The Friends is starting a busy field season for this spring, summer and fall. Check back frequently for updates.
Spring Riparian Plantings in Marshfield: Join your friends and neighbors to plant trees and shrubs along the banks of the river. Plantings will be done at two sites, the Marshfield Inn and the Martins Bridge area. There are several opportunities to help. Please sign up in advance to assist in our planning purposes and to confirm which site is scheduled for that day. Call 802-655-4878 or email fwr@sover.net.
Saturday, May 17th (2 shifts)
9:00 AM to Noon --and/or-- 1:00 to 4:00 PM
At the Marshfield Inn on Rte 2, south of Marshfield Village
Lunch will be available for both the morning and afternoon shifts.
5:00 to 8:00 PM on each of the following days
May 19th(Monday), May 21st (Wednesday)
May 27th (Tuesday), May 29th (Thursday)
Either Marshfield Inn or Martins Bridge
Light refreshments will be available.
This event is part of the Winooski Headwaters Community Project, a collaborative effort of many organizations, to help the residents to restore and protect the ecological integrity and increase enjoyment of the Winooski River. The event is sponsored in part by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, the Marshfield Conservation Commission, Cabot Creamery, the Friends of the Winooski River and the Winooski Natural Resources Conservation District.
Please bring a shovel and bucket if you have them. Wear long pants and sturdy shoes or boots. Bring water, sunscreen and insect repellent.
